Developer GSC Game World has cancelled anything involving NFTs in their upcoming first person survival horror shooter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, after intense backlash from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community.

The “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Metaverse” would have allowed players to own a piece of the game, according to the developers. They had already partnered with Los Angeles-based DMarket to use blockchain technology but it would appear those arrangements are most likely cancelled as well.

The GSC Game World Team took to Twitter to announce the decision.

“Dear Stalkers,

We hear you.

Based on the feedback we received, we’ve made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

The interests of our fans and players are the top priority for the team. We’re making this game for you to enjoy – whatever the cost is. If you care, we care too.

With love,
GSC Game World Team.”
