A glowing crystal cave area is the latest concept art for Bethesda’s open world sci-fi RPG Starfield.
Bethesda is now closer than ever to releasing Starfield for the Xbox Series X|S, as we’ve nearly reached the year 2022.
Concept art for the game’s upcoming release continues to trickle out, and today we get a look at what appears to be an ice cavern with the following message attached:
It has been decades since Bethesda worked on anything other than The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, so there isn’t any room for them to create an original IP.
As a new sci-fi franchise, however, Starfield will bring Bethesda’s well known open world elements into outer space, which should be an interesting change of pace for the series. Bethesda has just been teasing fans with new concept art of areas they expect to be able to explore in Starfield, but no gameplay footage has been released yet.
In addition to spacesuits and far-off planets, Starfield concept art shows small details that contribute to the creation of a coherent universe.
This attention to detail is important because of something that makes Starfield unique. Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t released a new IP in a few years, so they’ll need to create a compelling and engaging setting from scratch.
It’s possible that the world Bethesda is creating could be the most compelling part of the game. Experimentation gained from creating Fallout’s post-apocalyptic wasteland and The Elder Scrolls’ diverse fantasy lands is a huge advantage for Bethesda’s new IP.
Creating the world of Starfield could be what makes the game a crown jewel of Bethesda’s franchises, if all of the studio’s storytelling experience thus far culminates in its creation.
Starfield could fail if Bethesda doesn’t get the world right, putting an end to a new potential franchise before it even gets off the ground. Even if Bethesda does return to the familiarity of Fallout and The Elder scrolls, the well-rounded concept art suggests that it is doing everything it can to ensure that Starfield succeeds in all its aspects.
Fans can expect to see Starfield at Microsoft’s E3 2022 presentation. When it comes to E3, Bethesda is known for going all out. If you remember in 2015, the company did a grand showcase for Fallout 4 at E3. Since Starfield is slated to be the Xbox Series X’s flagship release in 2022, it makes sense that it would receive a similar treatment.
After teasing a lush jungle-like biome last week and mentioning that the team can’t wait to reveal Starfield in 2022 in a message from Todd Howard, this is the next logical step.
Starfield is currently scheduled to be released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud on November 11th, 2022. A journey through space is what Bethesda promises its players as they try to solve humanity’s biggest mystery.
