A Study in Potions is a limited-time quest that was added in Genshin Impact’s 2.4 Update. Each trial consists of 4 floors with different sets of enemies. Completing a floor will raise the difficulty of the next selected floor.
A Study in Potions Event Schedule
The quest can be completed from January 7 to January 17, 2022 and consists of three (3) trials that open every 2 days.
How to unlock A Study in Potions Quest
To unlock A Study in Potions quest, players will have to be at least at Adventure Rank 30 and have completed the “Farewell, Archaic Lord” Archon quest to qualify.
Players will also have to complete the Elixirs and Potions world quest to unlock the A Study in Potions quest.

- Help him with his research
- Complete the Elixirs and Potions quest
Players can then locate the domain gates as marked on the quest map.

A Study in Potions Trial Objectives and Gameplay
Trials
Each trial has four floors, all of which should be cleared to complete the entire trial. Though each floor is tagged as Stage I-IV, floors can be cleared in any order.
- Stage I: Sublimation Verification
- Stage II: Dosage Increase
- Stage III: Enhanced Sample
- Stage IV: Peak Study
Clearing a floor will make the next floor’s difficulty higher, so make sure to look through the opponents’ details and decide which set of enemies should be defeated first. Try to clear out the floor with the hardest enemies first, and with the easiest enemies last, in respect to your characters’ advantages.
A Study In Potions Difficulty Levels
The difficulty levels go from Normal, Hard, Extreme, and Fearless. Resetting the trial will also reset the floor difficulty.
There is another option to increase the score multiplier for each floor, but it will also increase the difficulty of the enemies. This is optional, but it is recommended to go for the higher difficulty so that the challenge target scores can easily be achieved.
- Accurate Sample – x1.0 score multiplier (base score)
- Strong Control Group – x2.5 score multiplier

- Baroque Bronze Medal – Complete the challenge
- Secret Silver Medal – Current floor challenge score reached 1000
- Glorious Gold Medal – Current floor challenge score reached 2500
Party Setup
Each trial will let you choose from four (4) trial characters that you may use to clear the floor. Picking a trial character is optional as you may go through the floors with your own characters.
Plan ahead with your team’s synergies as characters who get picked for a floor will be on standby until another floor gets cleared. Characters who were already picked for a previous floor on the same trial can be chosen again, provided that they’re no longer on standby.
Potion Setup
For these trials, your team are only allowed to get buffs from Smoldersleet Potions; food buffs are disabled. Three potions can be equipped per floor and each potion will provide different kinds of buffs to your current party.
Try to pick the potions that will best augment your party’s damage and give them the advantage over the enemies, but do consider leaving the stronger potions to be used on the more difficult levels.
Potions can only be used once per trial and will be restored upon resetting the entire trial.
Floor Objectives
Each floor has a time limit of five (5) minutes to clear all the enemies in it. A faster clear time will reward a higher score that will count towards the challenge target.
- Bronze – Defeat opponents within the time limit
- Silver – Remaining challenge time longer than 70 seconds
- Gold – Remaining challenge time longer than 140 seconds
Combat Tips
Make sure to build your party around the enemies that you’ll be fighting against. This goes for both mixed parties that have good elemental chaining attacks as well as pure element parties that really takes advantage of the enemies’ weakness.
There are no special objectives within combat, so focus on dishing out skills and make sure to use the right skills in order to achieve maximum elemental damage.
Utilize your crowd-controllers well, especially on floors with multiple enemies with varying elements. Make sure that your damage carry is well equipped to deal with enemies of the same element.
Trial Results
After clearing a floor, the game will ask if the score should be saved and recorded for the trial. Choosing not to save will allow for another attempt at the floor should you want to make changes to your party or potion setup.
