Bayonetta Maker Hideki Kamiya Departs PlatinumGames

PlatinumGames has not shared any plans on future projects after Kamiya's departure.

Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 creator Hideki Kamiya has recently announced his plans to depart PlatinumGames.

The official announcement was released on the official PlatinumGames Twitter account. It was revealed Kamiya’s final day is October 12, 2023.

“We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day,” PlatinumGames stated. “We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavours as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future.”

In a later post, Kamiya followed up with his own statement.

“This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs and was by no means an easy decision to make,” he said. “However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.”

Hideki Kamiya was the one to co-found PlatinumGames in 2006 together with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. Both of them worked previously at CAPCOM to develop Devil May Cry and Resident Evil series.

Clover Studio, a studio founded by CAPCOM, Kamiya worked on Viewtiful Joe and Okami before leaving to finally start up PlatinumGames with Mikami and Clover CEO Atsushi Inaba. This is the time when Kamiya started Bayonetta and became famous for it.

No word from Kamiya on what project he will work on next. PlatinumGames has not released any statement to reveal its future projects after the Bayonetta spin-off Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon in March 2023.
