Concord is an FPS game that was supposed to be a big hit for many PlayStation gamers. It launched on August 23, 2024, and unexpectedly failed to meet the expectations of many, including the developers. Recently, Sony announced some shocking news regarding the game and will compensate players who have bought the game.
According to the game director, Ryan Ellies, Concord will officially go offline this Friday due to the flood of negative feedback. He is quoted:
“While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended. Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.”
Because of such a decision, Sony has also determined to give all game buyers full refunds and sales will immediately cease. To get the refund, those who bought the game digitally through online game services such as Steam and Epic Games will be refunded and should receive confirmation once processed. For those who bought the game physically, customers can go to their local game store and ask for the refund.
It is unclear if Concord will ever return. If the game does resurface, however, it may have to follow in the footsteps of other hero shooters like Overwatch and Apex Legends and adopt a free-to-play model that will increase active player counts.
