Crysis Remastered to Mostly Make Use of PS4 Pro’s Higher Specs; PS5 Tease

Crysis Remastered gameplay reveal is just around the corner and everyone is excited of its improvements from its original title. This was the game that set the bar for high-performance PC build in its time and everyone in the PC gaming community would definitely know the phrase when talking about this particular game: “But does it run Crysis?” With the Remastered version, the console side will take advantage of those high specifications.

Saber Interactive CTO Anton Krupkin shared on the Official PlayStation Magazine (August 2020 Issue) what the remastered version of this classic game will run on.

    Krupkin stated:

Crysis Remastered will run at minimum 1440p 30fps, but can reach 4K through dynamic resolution or 1080p performance mode on PS4 Pro, and 30fps on the base PS4.

The Saber Interactive CTO also revealed that the main focus for the teams at the game company is on the visuals. He assures that the gameplay will remain untouched. “The main goal was to bring the original game to the newer generation of hardware and enhance the game’s visuals,” he said. “As a result, the team’s focus was less on changing gameplay and balancing, but more on implementing visual improvements.”

    Krupkin continued:

These include adding new and improved CryEngine features such as SVOGI (sparse voxel global illuminiation), adding TAA (temporal anti-aliasing), implementing new tone mapping, improving DOF (depth of field), improving motion blur, adding SSR (screen space reflections), adding POM (parallax occlusion mapping) and SSDO (screen space direction occlusion). We also implemented numerous art fixes for terrain, vegetation, materials, models, lights, characters, view distances, and many other areas.

Crysis Remastered Project Lead at Crytek Steffen Halbig was asked if the game has a Playstation 5 version in development. He answered, “Like most other developers out there we are following PS5 closely.” For now, the remastered version will be PS4-only, but his answer suggests there could be a chance in the future.

Krupkin shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming next-gen PS5 console. “The future looks very promising [for PS5]. From a development perspective we are excited to see how we can push the boundaries of the new hardware and utilize Sony’s new innovations in our games.”

Crysis Remastered will officially show its gameplay trailer tonight. According to the leaks, the game will launch on July 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
