Dead Space Remake Features Volumetric Effects, “Believable Audio” and More

Dead Space Remake was officially announced recently at the EA Play Live with a small tease of what to expect. Motive Studios has recently shared more details about how they plan to make the game faithful to the original but also different in a new game engine.

Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola stated that this is not a reboot, not a remaster, but a remake and will be fully rebuilt in Frostbite. It will have “all new assets, new character models, new environments” but also basing them all from the original designs. “We’re rebuilding everything from scratch, but we’re keeping the same story and same structure,” he revealed.

Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme then shared what they are putting in the game that will make it have that “mood and atmosphere”. He revealed that they are adding volumetric effects, which will make players “feel the depth of a room, the thickness of the air.” This will create the mood that the Dead Space series is popular of.

To add to the volumetric effects are shadows and dynamic lighting to complete that mood that fans are looking for. Ducharme even says that not only does it create the mood, it also has an effect on gameplay. There is a feature of the game where players will be the one to control the lighting in certain areas of the ship and that just ramps the thrill up to a whole new level. Imagine a dark hallway in the USG Ishimura with just the perfect dynamic lighting, shadows and volumetric effects, and then a shadow moves from a distance.

Adding to that is the audio to complete the full immersion that fans will feel when playing this remake. In order to provide “believable audio” they are going to enhance it even further.

This upcoming remake will surely be a space horror survival game to remember.

Dead Space Remake will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
