Diablo 4 Multiplayer Couch Co-op Explained

While online play is nice playing with friends side by side is an unmatched experience hence why the Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op is a great feature. Nothing beats playing next to a friend however convenient online play may be. Let’s talk about the couch co-op feature that’s in Diablo 4 and what you can expect from it.

So what is the Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op? How does it work? And how do you manage characters in couch co-op?

What is the Diablo 4 Multiplayer Couch Co-op?

The Multiplayer Couch Co-op is a feature that allows you to play with a friend on the same console in Diablo 4. Simply plug in a second controller and both of you can play on the same screen.

Couch co-op is almost a bygone relic in modern triple A games. With so many moving towards online connectivity, you may be missing just playing with a friend right next to you. That is, if you can stand sharing the screen.

Blizzard has enabled multiplayer couch co-op for Diablo 4 so you can team up locally with a friend to kill demons on the same screen. So long as you have an extra controller in your hands there’s no reason not to go for it if you want to. Well, that is if you have PS Plus otherwise there might be a problem.

There’s also an added benefit for co-op play as this gives you a 5% bonus experience when killing demons nearby any other player. This bonus is increased to 10% experience if that player is a member of your party which your couch co-op partner is most likely to be.

    Diablo 4 Multiplayer Couch Co-op

This isn’t the first time Blizzard Entertainment implement split screen couch co-op for the Diablo franchise. Prior to 4, Diablo III had split screen co-op but only in consoles. It may be the same in Diablo 4 due to PCs not being able to login to two Battle.net accounts at once.

How many players can you couch co-op with in Diablo 4?

You’ll only be able to couch co-op with one other player in Diablo 4. This means that there can only be two of you during a multiplayer couch co-op session.

It’s a bit limited compared to playing with others online where you can team up to 4 players at once. The Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op only lets you team up to 2 players on the same screen. This is a far cry from Diablo III which lets you play with up to 4 players locally in a shared screen.

Though you can play couch co-op online with other players to make a full party. This was confirmed by game producer Rod Fergusson who replied to a player asking about it on Twitter.

Hey Kevin, YES – you can have a two players playing couch co-op that can invite online players into their party.

And yes, it's crossplay so the couch co-op players can be on one console and invite a PC player and a different console player to be in the party.

Since Diablo 4 is crossplay as well, you can team up in couch co-op with players from a different platform without restrictions. So you can get started on great team compositions for you and your friends. If you need help, our Diablo 4 Classes Guide will help you get familiar with who to play as.

How does individual progression work for Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op?

Progression for the Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op is tied to your Battle.net account so you can save your progress even when you’re not playing with a friend anymore. This prevents progress from being lost upon quitting the session.

Diablo 4 is always online and there’s no way to play offline. So you’re progress is always being recorded through your Battle.net account. This makes Diablo 4 similar to an MMORPG experience. While always being online is something many players find unfavorable, there is a bright side that you can easily transfer your progress to other platforms thanks to Diablo 4’s unrestricted cross progression system.

That’s everything about the Diablo 4 multiplayer couch co-op. We hope you found this article to be informative.
