Blizzard has officially confirmed that there are no plans to add a tab overlay map for the upcoming video game Diablo IV.
Fans of Diablo might be quite familiar with the Automap Tool which was present in previous Diablo games as it was an essential feature in exploring the map. Diablo I and II had this and appears as a faint overlay in the middle of the screen. In Diablo III, it changed to the overlay map that can be seen on the top right corner of the screen. It is not in the center anymore, but it is still a helpful feature for players. It seems this will not be included in the upcoming game sequel.
Diablo Chief Rod Fergusson was clear in his answer to a question on Twitter about the Tab Overlay Map feature. “No plans at the moment,” he said plainly. Diablo IV does have a dedicated mini-map on the top right corner of the screen, so it should be close enough.
Fan reaction to Fergusson’s answer is quite mixed. Some argue that the Tab Overlay Map tool is an indispensable tool in exploration. On the other hand, others say that adding that feature would just break immersion.
Diablo IV will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 6, 2023.
