The Dark Castle is a main quest that players will have to complete as part of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Final story arc, which was added along with The Remembering Update. The quest will take place in the dark version of Dream Castle, where you must stop the Forgotten as they attempt to rip open the walls between Dreamlight Valley and the real world.
The objectives can be confusing, and there are inevitable riddles you’ll have to solve as you attempt to pass through the doors to reach the Forgotten, but don’t fret. This guide will give you a full walkthrough of The Dark Castle quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to start The Dark Castle Quest
The Dark Castle will automatically start once you complete the Forgotten Relics quest. You’ll eventually have to collect 4 Forgotten Relics and uncover each of their memories with the associated characters for the quest. Moving forward, you may explore Disney Dreamlight Valley’s final story arc.
The Dark Castle Quest Walkthrough
“The Dark Castle” quest has the following list of objectives:
- Bring the Forgotten Relics to Merlin.
- Follow Merlin to the Plaza.
- Talk to Merlin.
- Pass through the portal to the Dark Castle.
- Enter the Dark Castle.
- Pass though the first door to explore deeper into the Dark Castle.
- Something is weird about this door… (Investigate it)
- Find something around here to trick the door into letting you in.
- Talk to the door.
- Go through the door.
- Explore deeper into the Dark Castle.
- This door seems to be missing… (Search for a clue)
- Pass through the third door in the Dark Castle.
- Make your way to the next door.
- The door is locked… (Find a way to get the key)
- You melted the ice! (Get the key)
- Unlock the door using the key.
- Pass through the final door in the Dark Castle and face the forgotten.
Start by bringing all 4 Forgotten Relics to Merlin. After the conversation, Follow Merlin all the way to the Plaza where he will open the portal into The Dark Castle. Proceed to the portal and go through it, then cross the bridge when the cutscene ends and enter the castle.
From here, it’s The Forgotten you’ll have to defeat. However, in order to progress through the castle and get closer to the finale, you’ll need to unlock doors and solve puzzles on each floor.
How to Open the First Door in The Dark Castle
Get rid of all the night thorns blocking the door in the middle until you’re able to interact with it. The door will stay shut though, unless you meet its requirements.
In order to open the first door in The Dark Castle, you will need to equip a Crown and Wings. Go to your wardrobe and select the Story category with Merlin’s icon to see your available options.
The ones that will likely be usable for the quest are Thorny Wings and Onyx Crown, but you can only get these upon reaching character levels 38 and 40. You may also equip the Raven Wings, an unlockable reward for the Villain’s Star Path.
If you’ve got none of the equippable items mentioned above, don’t fret. You have the cheap option to unlock 2 new outfits that can be used to trick the door and progress the quest.
- Facing the First door, go to your left, clear the night thorns blocking the path, and open the Wardrobe storage in the middle to get a clothing bag containing a Cardboard Crown.
- Facing the First door, go to your right, clear the night thorns blocking the path, and open the Wardrobe storage next to the fireplace to get a clothing bag containing a pair of Cardboard Wings.
Once you’ve equipped the required Crown and Wings, head back to the door to open it and proceed to the second-floor Door.
How to Open the Second Door in The Dark Castle
Upon reaching the second floor, clear out specific Night Thorns blocking the path and go up the stairs until you reach a cooking station and a table with 4 ingredients. Beyond this area will be a clearable path and the second door.
In order to open the second door in The Dark Castle, you need to make a dish that suites the taste of Doorine using the ingredients on the table. The dish needed for the quest is a Night Thorn Sprout Salad, and the required ingredients for the recipe are as follows:
- Dark Castle Lettuce
- Dreamlight Salt
- Thorn Sprout
There’s no need to put in the Dark Castle Garlic since Doorine hates having bad breath. Once done, present the dish to the Doorine to open it and proceed through the next-floor door.
How to Open the Third Door in The Dark Castle
Follow the path ahead and up some stairs until you reach an arch surrounded by glowing green symbols between bookshelves. The door, however, is not visible. The note next to the bookshelf suggests a mechanical eye.
In order to reveal and open the third door in The Dark Castle, pull up your camera and take a photo of where you think the door is supposed to be placed.
Once done, the third door will automatically reveal itself once you exit Camera Mode. Interact with it and proceed through the next-floor door as usual.
How to Open the Final Door in The Dark Castle
To open the final door in The Dark Castle, you first need to find 4 torches within the area and arrange them around the well in a specific pattern.
The first torch (Dusk) can be found on the ground in front of the locked door. The second torch (Noon) can be obtained by breaking the small ice block next to the pile of books. The other two torches (Night and Dawn) can be obtained by breaking the large ice blocks near the well.
After picking up all four torches, head over to each pedestal surrounding the well and place the torches in order. Facing the locked door, place the Dusk Torch in the west, the Noon Torch in the south, the Night Torch in the north, and the Dawn Torch in the east.
When you have successfully placed all of the torches, a cutscene will play in which the ice melts, becomes water, and the key falls into the well. Use your Fishing Rod and fish out the Dark Castle Key in the golden node, then head over to the final locked door in order to open the passage to the next area.
Face to Face with the Forgotten
Going through the last door will bring you to your final confrontation with the Forgotten. The events will unfold to the point when you are unable to comfort the forgotten, leading to a clash of magical powers.
After the scene ends, you’ll be able to complete The Dark Castle quest and move on to another quest called “The Remembered,” which takes place in another dimension.
