The Diablo 4 Open Beta is nearly upon us, and while there’s no indication that the beta itself will require PS Plus, we do have confirmation of what’s needed when the game officially launches. You may want to sit down for this one.
Long story short, yes. You need PS Plus to play Diablo 4 on the PlayStation. Just like Diablo III on PS4, the game requires PS Plus in order to play online. The only difference is that it is an always online affair. Meaning that you need to be connected at all times to the internet, even on solo adventures.
Not only that but online play is also required for couch co-op. This issue was brought up by Reddit user WordCoding more than a week ago, and the link below shows an image of Blizzard Support’s response.
We say this again, offline play will not be supported in Diablo 4. You are required to have an always active internet connection to play. Unfortunately, the players most affected by this will be players will poor connections or those who prefer to play offline.
This applies to both the PC and console versions of the game.
Do You Need PS Plus to Play Diablo 4 Beta?
With regards to the upcoming Diablo 4 open beta, Blizzard support has confirmed that a PlayStation Plus subscription will not be required to play the Diablo IV Open Beta and Early Access weekends in most regions. They further clarified that, in Germany, a PS Plus subscription is required due to rating requirements.
This is the notice shown when you look at the game’s PlayStation Store page. It simply states that PS Plus and online play are required. It also says that the game supports up to 4 online players “with” PS Plus.
And that’s all we have right now for this article. To sum things up, you need to be always online to even play Diablo 4. To play online with friends, up to 4 players can play together if they are all subscribed to PS Plus.
