The Stolen Throne is a quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 where players have to sneak through a masquerade and discover a secret that can help gather more evidence against Allard. Read ahead as we go through the steps on how to complete The Stolen Throne quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to unlock The Stolen Throne quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The Stolen Throne quest can be unlocked after completing the Monster Culling quest from Brant. Head over to The Stardrop Inn, talk to Brant and then select the “Tell me of the masquerade” option to start the quest.
Approach the false Sovran
Upon asking Brant about the masquerade, he will tell you about the event and give you the Eventide Mask to wear. He will also instruct you to wear some formal clothes as well to blend in with the guests. The pieces that you will need for the attire are the Courtly Tunic and the Courtly Breeches, and there are several ways to get them:
- Complete The Ornate Box quest with Sven
- Purchase both items from Philbert’s Sundries (Vernworth) for a total of 305,000 G
- Steal them from the Noble Quarter houses
The easiest and fastest way to get the attire is to simply just steal them. Head over to the Comptroller’s house in the Noble Quarter of Vernworth. Go up the stairs and then turn left. Take the first door to the right to find the Courtly Tunic, then continue on to the next room to find the Courtly Breeches.
The next step is to wear all three items at the same time to prepare for the masquerade. But before heading into the Vernworth Hall, you can talk to the guards outside the hall to find out when the next masquerade will happen.
Next, wait until evening time before heading into the masquerade. Make sure to do this early in the evening to ensure that the NPCs that you will need to meet will still be at the venue.
As you enter the venue, a cutscene will play showing your target, the false Sovran, heading down towards the back corridor of the hall. Make your way to the corridor and look at the middle of the wall to find a secret door. Go through the door then through another door, and then follow the path to the right.
You will then end up at the bordelrie where you will meet Wilhelmina. After a short talk with her, she saves you from being found out by the guards. She will also show you some evidence against the false Sovran, plus hand you the Myrmecoleon Card which allows you to visit the bordelrie again to meet Wilhelmina.
There have been several reports from players about encountering different kinds of bugs that prevents them from progressing through the quests. Here are some of the bugs and their respective workarounds (these solutions have varying results):
- Guards at the Vernworth Hall are aggressive:
- Make sure to wear the complete disguise, including the mask, before entering the hall.
- Complete other quests away from Vernworth to reset the guards’ aggro status.
- As a last resort, rush through the hall until you reach the bordelrie, or as a Thief, sneak through using stealth.
- The masquerade event does not trigger:
- Make sure to check the schedule of the event with the guards near the Vernworth Hall.
- Rest for a few days and wait for the next masquerade event which usually happens once every two days.
- Wilhelmina’s cutscene does not trigger:
- Make sure to attend the event and get to the bordelrie early on in the night.
- Reload the previous save file and try once more, making sure that you see the false Sovran’s short cutscene within the hall.
Report back to Captain Brant
Head back to Brant and select the option for the masquerade again to report your findings. This will complete the quest and you will be rewarded with 900 XP, 6,500 G, and a Wakestone Shard.
