Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree The First Expansion Just Got Revealed

FromSoftware has finally announced the first expansion, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring, which was released last year and reached critical acclaim in just a few months, and by the end of 2022, it got awarded the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022, went silent after a while. It then got an update that introduced a new way to play multiplayer, but it was not that substantial like an expansion. It only offered new modes for multiplayer and that was it. The developers, however, did hint that there will be new content in the near future and that everyone will just have to stay tuned.

Many speculated that the next DLC will be about a new location, the Badlands. This area was outside of The Lands Between, and would offer new challenges, monsters, enemies, and bosses to fight. Others thought it was going to be about certain bosses that did not show up in the game but got mentioned only. One of those was Miquella, the brother of Malenia, who was a prisoner of Mohg but was slain by the Tarnished in the first game. This new announcement might hint at his return and the possible content for the new expansion.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Reveal

Today, it was announced by FromSoftware that Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is the first expansion of the game. According to the post on Twitter, this expansion is now in development. Based on the image attached to the post, it shows Miquella riding on Torrent and heading to the Erdtree which looks to be burned away. This could only mean that one of the endings of the original story was canon, which looks like it is the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending.

No other details were revealed in the post so the speculations above cannot be confirmed. We could know at a later time as FromSoftware slowly shares them online leading to the release date.

The post did not say any release dates, but it could be within this year or early next year. Some say development only takes half a year to make so it could be possible.
