The Final Fantasy 16 Gotterdammerung is unquestionably the best weapon in the game. You can completely miss this weapon on your playthrough, which locks you out of the “Half Past Twilight” trophy. The Gotterdammerung must be crafted, but the materials are so unique and hard to find that getting them can be a challenge in itself. That’s not including what you have to do to make this weapon available for crafting in the first place.
This guide will teach you how to craft Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16. From what you need to do to where you can get the materials, this complete FF16 guide offers it all.
How to Craft Gotterdammerung in FF16?
To craft Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16, you have to complete all 4 of the Blacksmith Blues side quests and then gather all of the required materials. Once you have gathered Ragnarok, 3 Orichalcum, 2 Darksteel, and a Primitive Battlehorn, you can craft Gotterdammerung at the Blacksmith in The Hideaway.
We recommend starting to look for the FF16 Gotterdammerung materials after the “Back to Their Origin” main story mission, which is late in the game. Some of the side quests necessary to get this weapon won’t be available until after you’ve completed this main story mission.
Step 1: Complete Blacksmith Blues
You won’t be able to get Gotterdammerung in FF16 right away. You first have to complete the Blacksmith Blues side quests, which only unlock after you’ve progressed enough in FF16’s story. You also have to do certain things to trigger them. Here’s what you need to do to unlock each Blacksmith Blues side quest:
- Blacksmith Blues I: Will be available after you’ve completed the main story quest “Here Be Monsters” then talk to August in The Hideaway to start.
- Blacksmith Blues II: Will be available after you’ve completed the main story quest “Letting Off Steam III” and talking to Mid, then go to the Hideaway and read the letter “About Blackthorne”
- Blacksmith Blues III: Will be available after “Like Father, Like Daughter” main story quest and can be started by talking to August in The Hideaway.
- Blacksmith Blues IV: Will be available after “Across the Narrow” main story quest and can be started by talking to August in The Hideaway.
Upon completing Blacksmith Blues IV, you’ll receive Ragnarok, which is an important material to craft Gotterdammerung. Even after completing the main story quests, you can still come back for the Blacksmith Blues side quests, so these aren’t missable. However, it’s very important that you do not sell Ragnarok; otherwise, you’ll be locked out of getting this weapon in FF16 unless you start a new game.
It’s only after completing all four of the Blacksmith Blues that you’ll get the design for Gotterdammerung, the best weapon in FF16. However, to complete it, you need to gather additional materials.
Step 2: Get Orichalcum
First up on the list is gathering 3 Orichalcum. This is done by either defeating specific Notorious Marks taken from the Hunt Board or finishing certain side quests. You need three in total, so you’ll be looking to take on marks from the Hunt Board first.
There are three Notorious Marks in particular you have to beat to get the required amount of Orichalcum to craft Gotterdammerung:
- The Breaker of Worlds, Atlas: Can be fought in Rosaria, Eastpool, in a small area at the east end of Cressida.
- The Tricephalic Terror, Gorgimera: Can be fought in Dhalmekia, southwest of The Velkroy Desert.
- The Masterless Marauder, Behemoth King: Can be fought in Waloed, southwest of the Vidagraves Obelisk.
Note that you can fight some of these Notorious Marks before you finish the Blacksmith Blues. There are only 5 ways to get Orichalcum, including the drops from the 3 Notorious Marks, so it’s important that you do not sell them, or else you’ll be locked out of getting Gotterdammerung.
Both Atlas and Gorgimera are Notorious Marks you can fight after completing the Blacksmith Blues IV side quest. However, you need to be a bit further to encounter Behemoth King, which will only spawn after you’ve completed the side quest, Nobody’s Fool, which will only be available after the “Back to Their Origin” main story quest.
Another way to get Orichalcum is by completing the Duty Undying II and Under New Management side quests. Since Orichalcum can also be used to craft armor, you may have expended the other two Orichalcum by this point. You can complete these two side quests, which are available after the “Back to Their Origin” main story quest.
Step 3: Get Darksteel
The next step to crafting Final Fantasy 16 Gotterdammerung is to get 2 Darksteel. These are also dropped by specific Notorious Marks:
- Usher to the Underworld, Thanatos: Can be fought in Dhalmekia in Titan’s Wake.
- The Grim Reaper, Prince of Death: Can be fought in Sanbreque, Royal Meadows.
Like the ones before them, Thanatos and Prince of Death will only appear after you’ve completed certain quests. Prince of Death will only spawn after the “Under New Management” side quest, which only becomes available after you’ve finished the “Back to Their Origin” main story quest. Likewise, Thanatos will only be available after you’ve completed the “Brotherhood” main story quest, which is pretty late in the game.
Step 4: Get Primitive Battlehorn
The last material you’ll need to craft Gotterdammerung is a single Primitive Battlehorn. This can only be acquired by defeating the Notorious Mark, Gobermouch. You can find him at Eistla in Waloed.
Like other Notorious Marks, Gobermouch won’t be available until you’ve completed the “Brotherhood” main story quest. So you’ll have to get far into the story before you can get a Primitive Battlehorn.
Step 5: Craft Gotterdammerung at the Blacksmith
Once you have Ragnarok, 3 Orichalcum, 2 Darksteel, and a Primitive Battlehorn, you can now craft Gotterdammerung, the best weapon in FF16. Go back to the Blacksmith in the Hideaway, and you can select Gotterdammerung from the crafting list.
You now have Final Fantasy 16 Gotterdammerung at your disposal. This will also get you the “Half Past Twilight” Trophy, and you’re a step closer to Platinum in the game. With Gotterdammerung, you won’t have any problems dealing with most enemies in the game with its 375 damage.
That’s all the necessary steps to craft and obtain Gotterdammerung in FF16. Check out our other Final Fantasy 16 articles here to stay up-to-date on more news, guides, and features.
