Fans eager to experience the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox consoles received a glimmer of hope recently. In an interview with Video Games on Si, producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Square Enix is indeed planning to bring the title to Xbox, following its recent PC release.
“Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox,” Yoshida stated. However, he remained tight-lipped about any potential release window, adding, “But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything.”
Despite the lack of concrete details, Yoshida reassured fans, saying, “It’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in terms of their hopes.”
This news comes in the wake of Final Fantasy XVI‘s somewhat underwhelming sales performance on PS5, which has prompted Square Enix to adopt a broader multiplatform strategy. The publisher recently released the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection on Xbox, fueling speculation about further releases on the platform.
Industry insider Nate the Hate, known for accurate predictions, previously hinted at an Xbox release for Final Fantasy XVI, suggesting that the Pixel Remaster collection would precede it. This prediction proved accurate, with the Pixel Remaster arriving on Xbox last week during Tokyo Game Show.
While Xbox players eagerly await further news, the confirmation from Yoshida himself offers a welcome sign that Final Fantasy XVI will eventually release on the platform.
