The very first Mortal Kombat 12 teaser has been recently released and it is giving the fans a sneak peek at what to expect in the future.
It was about time that Mortal Kombat 12 was going to be announced since MK11’s story has been concluded. NetherRealm has been silent for so long so it was probably the right moment to release a teaser giving fans a taste of what is to come. Warner Bros. Discovery had also revealed early that MK12 was coming so this was just the right time.
The official Twitter account of Mortal Kombat 30 celebrated the franchise’s 30th anniversary with a new video featuring creator Ed Boon giving a short message to the fans. Afterward, he revealed a very brief clip that showed an hourglass with sand falling from one end. It then zooms into one grain of sand that later explodes. This can be confusing to the fans, but it seems related to the ending of the story of MK11.
SPOILERS AHEAD
At the end of Mortal Kombat 11’s story, Kronika the Keeper of Time was killed by Shang Tsung was going to use her crown for himself, but Liu Kang from the future arrives to stop him. Depending on the player’s choice, the future would be remade by either Liu Kang or Shang Tsung and create a New Era. The explosion of the grain of sand could have signified the creation of that new timeline.
End of Spoilers
Since the teaser only had that hourglass and grain of sand explosion, nothing is certain yet, but the ending of MK11 is clearly going to connect with MK12. We’ll just have to wait and see what Ed Boon has in store.
Mortal Kombat 12 is now in development.
