Former XCOM Director Forms New Studio After Departure from Firaxis

Next game he's making is surprisingly not a turned-based strategy game.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the modern XCOM franchise Director Jake Solomon has announced that he is planning to create his own studio after leaving Firaxis.

Last month, Solomon announced his departure from Firaxis after working there for 23 years last month. Today at Simon Parkin’s My Perfect Console podcast, he has stated that he is now forming his own studio. He also confirmed that he will not likely make another turn-based strategy game in the future. He says that he “doesn’t have anything more to say in that area.”

“After I made Midnight Suns I looked at, ‘ok, I’m going to make another turn-based strategy game, and am I excited about that?’ And I found that I wasn’t that excited about doing another turn-based strategy game, not because the genre isn’t amazing – it’s where I’ve spent my life – but I felt like I didn’t have anything more to say in that area,” he said.

“I feel like I can do this, do a whole new thing and be completely in charge of it, and that was just too exciting for me.”

Solomon has not named his planned studio yet, but he does say that he plans to make a simulation game this time.
