Forspoken Denuvo DRM just got confirmed in its PC version but is it the right move for Square Enix?
Forspoken Denuvo DRM Confirmed, Unfortunately
Forspoken’s Steam page just got updated and revealed a new detail that might disappoint many PC players. Square Enix has now confirmed that its upcoming new title will include the frowned-upon anti-tamper software Denuvo DRM.
Denuvo DRM in a Nutshell
What is Denuvo DRM for those who are uninitiated? It is an anti-tamper feature for PC games which will make it hard for hackers to crack the new games on launch and for a period of time. Basically, it is a security lock for PC games to properly sell in the gaming market and gain profits without getting cracked and given away for free on pirate websites.
PC games will get cracked sooner or later but with Denuvo DRM, it will slow the process a lot longer. What is the problem though why do many not like it? There was controversy about the DRM software actually tampering with the code of the game, making it buggy and sometimes unplayable. This was proven too by many players who played certain games with DRM installed. Many studios were forced to remove it after the community complained, but the stigma has now remained until this day. Whenever a game gets DRM, everybody hates it.
Denuvo DRM a Natural Thing for Square Enix Games
Square Enix has a habit of adding Denuvo DRM to most of their games so it is no surprise they added one to Forspoken, which is a new IP. It is possible they want the game to sell well on PC before they could remove the feature at a later time. Sometimes they would leave it on despite the complaints.
Will Square Enix remove Forspoken Denuvo DRM if the community complains about a buggy launch? We’ll know when it gets released later.
Forspoken launches on January 24, 2023 on PC and PS5.
