Host Geoff Keighley has recently posted online to temper the expectations of the community when Gamescom Opening Night Live begins.

Gamescom Opening Night Live Expectations

Keighley said in an interview with media outlet VGC that the upcoming August 22, 2023 event will be mostly updates on announced games planned to release over the next 12 months.

“It’s going to be an exciting show with new looks at many announced upcoming games like Alan Wake 2, and Black Myth Wukong,” Keighley said. “This year’s ONL is less about announcing brand new projects, and more about giving fans updates on some of the biggest games due out over the next year.”

Updates on Anticipated Titles

Last year, Opening Night Live lasted for just over two hours and it featured more than 35 games. This year, it will be mostly about game updates so it could have the same numbers again or maybe lesser. Black Myth Wukong is the most exciting game to watch out for since there have not been any updates detailing its gameplay and its release window. Hopefully, this upcoming event will be the one to finally reveal it.

Keighley stated that despite being his only European event, he views this as a global showcase with games coming from teams across the globe. He is not even surprised that the event still remains popular, even after post-pandemic.
