Sucker Punch and Sony Interactive Entertainment have announced that Ghost of Yotei is scheduled for release on PS5 on October 2, 2025. The announcement follows nearly five years of development since the launch of their previous critically acclaimed title.
While narratively distinct from Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei is positioned as a significant follow-up, aiming to deliver a compelling experience for players. The game centers on the journey of protagonist Atsu and her quest for vengeance.
Alongside the release date announcement, a new trailer for Ghost of Yotei, titled The Onryo’s List, is now out. This trailer offers a glimpse into Atsu’s backstory and the central conflict of the game.
The new trailer showcases members of the Yōtei Six, segments of the environment in Ezo, some of Atsu’s weaponry, glimpses of her allies, and introduces a new gameplay mechanic that allows players to gain insight into Atsu’s past.
The open-world exploration mechanics are stated to build upon and evolve from those featured in Ghost of Tsushima, offering players increased freedom and variety in how they navigate the environment of Ezo. Players will have agency in determining the order in which they pursue the Yōtei Six. Additional gameplay activities mentioned include tracking dangerous targets for bounties and seeking out a weapon to acquire new skills. The environment of Ezo is described as both wild and perilous, featuring unexpected dangers alongside opportunities for respite, including some activities familiar to players of Ghost of Tsushima. The ability to establish a campfire anywhere in the open world is also noted.
Pre-orders for Ghost of Yotei are scheduled to start next week, on May 2, starting at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
Ghost of Yotei is launching exclusively on PS5 this October 2, 2025.
