HBO’s The Last of Us Receives Numerous Nominations

According to a report by Variety, HBO’s The Last of Us has received a total of 24 Emmy nominations. This has now made it the first live-action video game adaptation to receive such an amount of nominations from the prestigious awards event.

Show Gets Nominated

The show is running to win Emmy awards across various categories including best drama series, best directing in a drama series (for Peter Hoar’s work on the show’s popular third episode Long, Long Time), best writing for a drama series, outstanding production design for a narrative contemporary program, outstanding contemporary costumes for a series, and outstanding casting for a drama series.

Cast Gets Nominated

The cast of The Last of Us is also getting a lot of awards like Pedro Pascal nominated for best lead actor in a drama series as Joel and Bella Ramsey nominated for best lead actress in a drama series as Ellie.

Murray Barlett and Nick Offerman are both nominated for the best guest actor in a drama series for their portrayal as Frank and Bill in the third episode. Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard are also nominated for the best guest actor in a drama series for their portrayal as Henry and Sam respectively. Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley, and Anna Torv as Tess are also nominated as best actress in a drama series category.

Tough Competition

There is some tough competition though in this year’s Emmys like Succession and The White Lotus, which have gotten major award nominations as well with 27 and 23 respectively. Even if The Last of Us does not walk away with a single Emmy award this year, it will still have made history so far as the first live action video game adaptation that got recognized for major awards by a Hollywood body.
