The vast, expansive nature of Starfield gives the impression of a never-ending interstellar journey. However, like all games, it also has its limits, despite the promise of being able to explore a thousand worlds. We’re here to answer how long it takes to beat Starfield.

How Long is Starfield?

The main story of Starfield can be beaten in 30 to 45 hours on average. However the vast amounts of side content you can partake in means you’ll be finding new things to do even 80 hours into the game. Like many other Bethesda open world games, the freedom to do what you want is the biggest factor for how long it’ll take to finish the game.

A claim from Pete Hines, Head of Bethesda Publishing, states that Starfield doesn’t truly start until after you’ve beaten the main campaign. With the ability to assemble your own fleet, create your base, and complete quests for rivalling factions, you’re going to be kept very busy. If you’re the type to get very immersed into a game, you’ll likely be spending an absurd amount of time into Starfield.

Players who want to 100% Starfield will likely be spending an even longer time than the average. There are 50 achievements of the game to get in total. Some of them can take really long to finish as achievements like Reach For the Stars asks you to grind all the way to Level 100.

There’s a vast galaxy to explore out there with multiple star systems. What’s interesting is that you can ignore the main quest entirely to explore on your own. Meet new people across the stars and move at your own pace.

There are 19 main story missions in Starfield. That may not sound like a lot for the vast expansive nature of the game, but each mission can take a long time to beat. Not to mention you’ll be distracted by the seemingly endless amounts of side content that the game provides.

If you want to tackle the Starfield story missions again, there is New Game Plus content available after beating the game. This keeps your level and skills, but everything else including story progress, inventory items, and relationships are reset. It’s a good way to reexperience Starfield from the beginning and sink more hours into the game.
