Palworld offers a seemingly random selection of technology from different eras of Earth. Many of these become accessible when the player levels up and naturally earns Technology Points. The same can’t be said about the gadgets acquired using Ancient Technology Points.
In this short guide, I’ll tell you how you can get Ancient Technology Points in Palworld. Much like Ancient Civilization Parts, the points are earned through victory in battle albeit only for the first successful attempts. Subsequent victories are then rewarded with a few Ancient Civilization Parts.
Where to get Ancient Technology Points in Palworld
Before we go any deeper, let’s talk about the ‘where’ you can Ancient Technology Points first. To put it simply, Ancient Technology Points are found in dungeons and areas where Boss Pals are encountered. If you look at the map above, you’ll notice that some Points of Interest have the icon of a Pal. These mark the locations where Boss Pals can be found.
As you’ve already guessed, killing the boss on the map will result in a checkmark appearing over the icon of said boss. This is an indicator that the boss has been defeated for the first time. That also means that you have earned yourself an Ancient Technology Point.
Don’t worry about losing access to the boss fight. You can always come back and challenge the boss again after a one-hour rest period. Do note that subsequent wins will only net you a few Ancient Civilization Parts and a handful of resources. The EXP each victory brings is a great boon for your team. It might be worth remembering if you are interested in leveling up your team fast.
The thing you need to know about the Boss Pal encounters is that they can occur in one of four ways:
- In the open world. (Like the Jormuntide Boss Pal pictured above)
- Inside a dungeon. In this case, your character will be teleported to a small arena with debris you can use to block some attacks.
- At the end of a mine shaft. The challenge here is locating the mine entrance. It’s usually around the vicinity of the boss. If you’re looking for the entrance, be on the lookout for wooden beams and fences, anything that would suggest a mine could be potentially there. I’m certain you’ll find the boss Pal at the end of the tunnel.
- The boss towers. Each of the enemy factions has in their possession a tower. All the towers look the same as the one the Syndicate controls. The other faction towers are more likely to be found near the edges of the map.
For killing a boss for the first time, you will be rewarded one Ancient Technology Point. That might not seem like a lot but every little bit helps in the long run. As far as I know, the roaming ‘Shiny’ Pals do not drop Ancient Technology Points upon defeat. They do drop Ancient Civilization Points, however.
When it comes to the Faction Bosses, a first win against them will net you a whopping 5 Ancient Technology Points. But don’t get too excited and start looking for fights. You don’t see the faction leader’s level on the map. You can see where their towers are from a distance but you can’t tell how powerful they are until you fight them.
For perspective, the Syndicate boss, Zoe, is the tutorial boss and is supposed to be beaten relatively quickly. In contrast, the Pal Genetic Research Unit’s boss is so tough that even a four-man team armed to the teeth will find themselves struggling to take them down within the time limit.
What I’m trying to say is: be careful who you challenge.
Why are Ancient Technology Points so Important?
Ancient Technology Points are used to unlock gadgets from the Ancient Technology tab right next to the tech tree. The points won’t cost you too much initially but do keep in mind that there are only so many points Ancient Technology Points in the world. As many as there are bosses to fight. And that number will run out eventually. By that logic, Ancient Technology Points are the most precious resource in the game. A resource that goes into making feed bags and grappling hooks.
And that’s how you can get Ancient Technology Points in Palworld. Frankly speaking, the Ancient Technology tab has more niche stuff in it than actually anything that might be considered game-changing. Don’t get me wrong, the Egg Incubator is a must-have for Pal breeding but I don’t really need a launcher that rapidly shoots out Pal Spheres. That’s a bit over the top for me.
