One of the cutest NPC you’ll ever encounter is the Owlbear Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3. Even better, you may recruit them as a pet pet for your party; yet, doing so can be difficult, as one mistake can lead to a missed opportunity and potentially never seeing the cub again. We made this guide as such to help you get the Owlbear Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Get the Owlbear Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The only way to obtain the Owlbear Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3 is by getting Krolla to give it to you during the Chicken-Chasing event at the Goblin Camp. However, you first have to ensure the Owlbear Cub survives the first time you meet it in the cave with its mother. The little fella will then appear at your camp a few nights later.

You’ll first encounter the Owlbear Cub in a cave between Druid Cove and Blighted Village. Just cross the bridge and head north until you’re close to where you can find Scratch the dog. There’s a cave nearby, along with some tracks you can follow. Following these tracks will lead you to a very mature and hostile mother Owlbear.

This encounter can go different ways, especially if you have Animal Speak. If you don’t, you can buy potions that let you converse with animals. You can then Charm and Intimidate the mother Owlbear like you would with anyone else.

If you have Animal Handling, you can use it to study the mother Owlbear’s behavior. This will reveal what they’re protecting. From here, you have several options, ranging from showing no harm by backing away slowly or raising your arms. However, should you fail any of the checks, this will result in the mother Owlbear attacking.

Regardless of whether you attack the mother Owlbear or leave peacefully, you’ll meet the Owlbear Cub later on in the Goblin Camp. If you do decide to end things violently, make sure to check on the Owlbear Cub before heading out. Just refrain from harming the Owlbear Cub in any way.

Later on, you’ll meet the Owlbear Cub again. By heading to the west of the Druid Grove and Blighted Village, you’ll find a camp surrounded by goblins. Here’s where you’ll meet Krolla, who tells you about the Chicken-Chasing game they have going on, with the star of the show being the Owlbear Cub.

Talk with Krolla and have her explain the rules to you. She’ll cut the conversation short because Volo the Bard is making noise in the middle of the Goblin Camp. Talk to him and then return to Krolla to find out more about Chicken-Chasing.

The easiest way to get the Owlbear Cub is to denounce Chicken-Chasing altogether and convince Krolla to give the cub to you. This is done either by Persuasion, Intimidation, buying the cub for 500 gold, or use Illithid’s Wisdom. If you’re not confident in your odds of persuading or intimidating Krolla, then either buy the Owlbear Cub for 500 gold or use Illithid’s Wisdom, which will convince Krolla you’re a True Soul and give you the cub as a gift.

You can take part in the Chicken-Chasing game and still get the Owlbear Cub. Regardless, you’ll have to either find a way to Persuade, Intimidate, or use Illithid’s Wisdom to get the Owlbear Cub later in the game. Taking part in the Chicken-Chasing game will at least give you some gold to purchase the Owlbear Cub, provided you can convince Krolla after she tries to cheat you out of it. You’ll need at least 30 gold for this as a wager, or 75 gold if you’re feeling confident.

Once you’ve bought your way into the Chicken-Chasing game, the Owlbear Cub will run to the arena. After winning the Chicken-Chasing game, go back and talk to Krolla, who will refuse to give you your winnings. Either Persuade, Intimidate, or use Illithid’s Wisdom to get what’s yours. Then talk to Krolla again and tell her that the Owlbear Cub is coming with you. You’ll get the same options as the first via Persuasion, Intimidation, buying the Owlbear Cub, or using Illithid’s Wisdom.

After getting the Owlbear Cub from Krolla, it will disappear from the Goblin Camp and reappear in your Camp a few nights later. Congratulations! The Owlbear Cub is now yours.
