2016 has been a year full of ups and downs. Overall the year was full of great games and memories. So as we close the year I have my list of top games for 2016. This year opened me to a lot of platforms including the PS4, PC, 3DS, and even mobile gaming. So let’s take a look at what I enjoyed the most this year.
Stardew Valley
Who would have thought that a farming simulation would be a hit? This game was so popular and well received by the players that people who pirated the game got so guilty they went ahead and bought the game. This game really takes me back to when I played Harvest Moon. It does have elements similar to that of Harvest Moon but this game is so much more. I loved the procedurally-generated dungeons where you get resources for your farm and your character. I loved the events that take place within the year. I loved that there are other several places that you can go to which makes the game more alive. This is one of the games that I invested my time on and I don’t regret every single second that I do so.
Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls 3 was one of those games that you know what you are getting into but you still go at it anyway. I got hooked to the series the moment I got my hands on Dark Souls 2. Although, people always said Dark Souls 2 was incredibly easy, I was neck-deep in the dead bodies of my character. I guess you can say, I like torturing myself because no matter how bad it got I still kept going at it until I was able to complete the game. That feeling of accomplishing a daunting task is something that just makes you feel proud once you have conquered it and that’s how this game made me feel. I can’t wait for what’s next to come.
Pokémon Sun and Moon
This is probably the first Pokémon game that I have played in a very long time that I actually got to finish. Not just because I was reviewing it but because this game featured a lot of changes from the first Pokémon game I ever played. I thoroughly enjoyed this game from beginning to end and a Pokémon game was one of the reasons I bought a Nintendo 3DS. If any of you are true Pokémon fans, then you wouldn’t want to miss this one at all.
Telltale Presents the Walking Dead Season 3: A New Frontier
Clem! My had she grown from the last season of the Walking Dead Telltale. This was the game that launched Telltale to fame. With its superb story that made us love Clem and all those plot twists that got me reeling from beginning to end. I could not help but remember and cry when Lee and Clem had to part ways. Since then I always looked forward to the next season that it almost feels like I’m watching a TV series. Episodes 1 and 2 have been released so far and boy was it such a great opener! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next episode.
Final Fantasy XV
After 10 long years, Square Enix finally released Final Fantasy XV. The much-awaited 15th installment of the long running series of Final Fantasy games. I am happy that this game lived up to its hype and I can’t wait to fully enjoy it. My only qualms about this game is that you can’t fully control the other characters unlike the other games in the series. Although it’s good to know that you won’t have any trouble figuring out which character to take when you are exploring the world.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
This is the game that I would consider the one that made 2016 very memorable for me. The much awaited sequel to Naughty Dog’s great series came out this year and this is one of my most anticipated games of 2016. I just really love anything that Naughty Dog publishes and Uncharted is no exception. I enjoyed the story and gameplay that it provided and it was such a nice wrap-up to the whole Nathan Drake adventure. I just can’t believe that the Nathan Drake storyline is already over but I was happy to know that they are still continuing the series. I don’t know how I would feel about the game without Nathan Drake in it but we will see what happens.
