2K Games and developer Hangar 13 have unveiled the official gameplay trailer and a “Breaking Omerta” developer insights video for their upcoming title, Mafia: The Old Country. The game is officially scheduled to release on August 8, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The newly released gameplay trailer provides a look at the experience players can expect in Mafia: The Old Country. It showcases action sequences featuring both melee combat and gunplay, alongside era-appropriate mobility options including vehicles and horseback travel. These elements are presented within the visual backdrop of early 1900s Sicily.
Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes commented on the game’s design philosophy, stating, “Mafia: The Old Country is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay.” Baynes further elaborated on the narrative, describing it as “gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional,” and highlighting that it serves as a “mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi’s crime family,” emphasizing themes of loyalty, honor, and obedience.
A deeper look into the development process is provided in the “Breaking Omerta” Developer Insights video. This video explores Hangar 13’s efforts in meticulously recreating early 1900s Sicily to serve as an authentic setting for the narrative. The developers discuss building an emotionally engaging story filled with the twists characteristic of crime sagas, blending deep storytelling with intense gameplay. Mafia: The Old Country is noted as the first installment in the series to utilize the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
David Ismailer, President of 2K, shared the publisher’s perspective on the title, stating, “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments.” He added, “We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis.”
Mafia: The Old Country is available for pre-order starting today, offering two distinct editions: Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. Both editions are scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release on August 8, 2025.
The Standard Edition includes the full base game and is priced at $49.99 USD on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The Deluxe Edition is priced at $59.99 USD. This edition provides access to a variety of bonus in-game items designed to enhance the thematic experience of the game’s criminal underworld setting. It includes:
- The Padrino Pack (featuring the “Lupara Speciale” Shotgun, “Vendetti Speciale” Pistol, “Immortale” Charm, “Padrino” Outfit, “Stiletto Speciale” Knife, “Eckhart Speciale” Limousine, and “Cosimo” Horse and Accessories)
