One Piece Odyssey takes the Straw Hat Pirates into a new adventure. As one of the most iconic anime ever, there’s a lot riding on Bandai Namco to really make this game shine. And it definitely seems that One Piece Odyssey aims to be great in its own way.

What is the One Piece Odyssey Story about?

One Piece Odyssey tells the tale of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates becoming shipwrecked in a mysterious island after a big storm. The crew find themselves in Waford looking for Zoro, Nami, and Brook who were separated from the main force. On their search, they meet Adio Suerte and Lim, a young woman with the ability to steal people’s powers and put them into a cube.

Lim steals the Straw Hat Pirates abilities and then separates the cube that holds their powers into pieces, sending it into different parts of the island. Luffy and his friends must now regain their lost strength by exploring Memoria, a world made of the Straw Hat’s memories. Together they will relive their adventures of the Arabasta Kingdom, Enies Lobby, Water 7, Marineford, and Dressrosa. Will this be their chance to rewrite history?

One Piece Odyssey Gameplay

One Piece Odyssey is a turned based JRPG that allows players to explore an open world where they can freely switch between party members to solve puzzles and get through terrain. Bandai Namco advertises the game’s unique “Dramatic Scene System” where turned based combat can develop certain scenarios for the player to fulfill, such as Luffy needing to prove himself the captain by getting the last hit on the enemy.

As players explore Memoria, they’ll be able to revisit iconic locations from the anime. This time, Luffy has his crew with him as they explore previous arcs in One Piece which potentially could make the outcome different. One trailer reveals of Luffy wanting to save Ace from his execution despite knowing full well that it’s just a memory.

One Piece Odyssey Platforms

One Piece Odyssey is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The turn-based JRPG will not be coming to the Xbox One despite releasing for its previous generation Sony counterpart.

The exclusion of the Xbox One is strange considering that One Piece Odyssey is expected to come out for the PS4. There’s no reason given as to why One Piece Odyssey won’t be coming to the Xbox One that was given.

One Piece Odyssey Collector’s Edition and Pre-Order Bonuses

The One Piece Odyssey Collector’s Edition will cost $129.99 USD and will feature everything that comes with the Deluxe Edition. This edition of the game comes with a Collector’s Box that contains a Luffy and Lim figurine, steel case, and One Piece postcards. This limited edition is only available physically.

Who are the One Piece Odyssey Characters?

One Piece Odyssey will be exploring multiple arcs from the anime in the past so players will be able to meet familiar faces from Luffy’s adventures. In the world of Memoria, the Straw Hats have to work together to reclaim their old abilities after it was stolen from them and scattered across.

Each of Luffy’s playable crew have their own specialties that make them suited to different tasks. You can use a specific party member to target vulnerabilities that tip the odds in your favor. However their abilities doesn’t just apply to the turn based combat as each party member is useful in the open world as well.

Is One Piece Odyssey multiplayer?

One Piece Odyssey is confirmed to be single player. There are no indications that Bandai Namco is incorporating any sort of multiplayer into the game. The Steam page also confirms One Piece Odyssey to be purely single player.

Who are the One Piece Odyssey developers?

One Piece Odyssey is being developed by ILCA who have previously worked on other JRPGs such as Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and had a hand in the developments of Code Vein and Dragon Quest XI. While they don’t have an extensive background, this isn’t the first work from ILCA.

One Piece Odyssey Release Date

One Piece Odyssey is set to release in January 12, 2023 for PC and January 13, 2023 for consoles. There are slightly different dates depending on whether you plan to play the PC or console versions of the game. It seems PC players will get to play One Piece Odyssey sooner than the rest.

The game was initially supposed to release last year but was pushed back slightly. We still aren’t sure what caused the delay, but One Piece Odyssey seems to be ready to debut without further ado.
