Onimusha Way of the Sword Unveils First Extended Look at Legendary Samurai Action

Capcom has provided the first extended look at Onimusha: Way of the Sword since its surprise reveal at The Game Awards 2024. The new trailer confirms the game’s protagonist is Miyamoto Musashi, one of Japan’s most legendary historical figures. In this dark fantasy action game, Musashi, portrayed as a fierce young samurai, finds himself wielding the powerful Oni Gauntlet to battle the demonic Genma that plague feudal Japan.

Musashi’s in-game appearance is modeled after the late, iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in classic samurai films. The game takes place in Kyoto, a city corrupted by ominous clouds of Malice that have unleashed Hell onto the world of the living, throwing the capital into chaos.

Armed with the Oni Gauntlet, Musashi gains supernatural abilities beyond human limits, enabling him to slay monstrous foes, including the fearsome axe-wielding Byakue, whose strength grows as it absorbs its blood.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new installment in the Onimusha series in nearly two decades. The game blends historical fiction with supernatural elements, delivering an intense sword-fighting experience that emphasizes precise combat and the strategic absorption of enemy souls in the heat of battle.

Set for a worldwide release in 2026, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
