It was recently announced and confirmed by Blizzard that Overwatch 2 players will have to pay in order to gain permanent access to the PvE story missions in the upcoming sixth season called Invasion.
A few days ago, it was posted in a blog post that the Overwatch 2 Invasion Bundle which will be introduced in the upcoming sixth season will be priced at $15. By buying the bundle, players will get 1,000 Overwatch Coins, which usually cost $10 and the Sojourn Legendary Skin.
There is also the $40 version, the Ultimate Invasion Bundle which includes the regular Invasion Bundle plus another 1,000 OW Coins, Legendary skins for Cassidy and Kiriko, and the Null Sector Premium Battle Pass with 20 Tier skips.
There is one problem with this bundle though. It includes the PvE story missions, which is the only way to gain access to them. Players will need to PAY money in order to play these story missions or else they will just have to make do with what the freebies offer.
When IGN asked Blizzard for confirmation, the development team was sure that players would need to buy either of the Invasion Bundles ($15 or $40) to access the PvE missions.
“Players must purchase either of the Invasion Bundles to access PvE,” a Blizzard spokesperson said. “Missions won’t be free, and access to Story Missions are part of the $15 bundle. This includes access to the content during the season and then access permanently after the season concludes.”
On social media, players are quite angry that they must pay to play the story missions. They think these PvE missions are core content, so why do they need to pay? Also, this is the only way to play these missions and nothing else.
Overwatch 2: Invasion launches on August 10, 2023.
