Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokémon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet legendary Pokémon: Koraidon and Miraidon has just been revealed during the release of its second trailer. We’ll try to get a better look at these two flagship legendaries and see what we gather as to what Scarlet and Violet’s story might turn out to be.

Based from the box arts, these two Pokémon will be version specific similar to previous titles, with Koraidon being the legendary of Scarlet and Miraidon for Violet. We would probably encounter both legendaries in each game, however trading between Scarlet and Violet might be necessary to get each other.

    Notice the different textures.

    Koraidon

Koraidon is the legendary Pokémon for Pokémon Scarlet. Its name is derived from the Japanese word “korai” (古来) which means “ancient”, and “don” which is usually the suffix found in dinosaur names and derived from the Ancient Greek work for “tooth”.

Koraidon looks like a bipedal lizard with red scales on its mouth that slowly transition to a red velvety fur for the rest of its body. It also has feathers on its head, hip area, fore and hindlegs. It has a very long whisker-like horn on top of its eye, and an almost similar protrusion on both of its shoulder, but shorter. Its hands and feet have four digits each and the middle two digits of each are connected by a webbing.

Koraidon’s most notable feature is its growth on its chest which resembles a spiked tire. The tire resemblance can also be seen on its tail, albeit only when it curls it forwards. Because of these, Koraidon looks like a traditional chopper motorcycle when it lays down on its belly with its tail curled forward, although it would be anatomically impossible for its “wheels” to spin.

    Koraidon

    Miraidon

Miraidon is the legendary Pokémon for Pokémon Violet. Its name is derived from the Japanese word “mirai” (未来) which means “future”, and “don” which is usually the suffix found in dinosaur names and derived from the Ancient Greek work for “tooth”.

Miraidon looks like a robotic serpentine lizard that is made out of synthetic materials like metal and and plexiglass. Most of its body has a violet metallic finish, while its snout and jaw is made out of carbon fiber. The upper part of its head resembles a glass visor, while its eyes look like they are made out of LED screens. It also has horns that are shaped like lightning bolts, which can also be found at the tip of its tail. There are also horn-like protrusions on top of its shoulders.

Miraidon’s most notable features are its throat and hindlegs. Its throat seems to be the place where it generates its power, similar to a portable fusion reactor. It’s possible that its run-offs are the bolts resembling its horns and its tail tip. Its thighs resemble jet engines with its feet resting on them. These can swivel forwards and backwards, and possibly in other directions when turning.

Koraidon and Miraidon Similarities and Possible Connections

Based from the name themselves, these two Pokémon represent the ancient past and the distant future, or tradition and progress. It is quite possible that Koraidon may have been revived directly from a fossil, or perhaps bred from a revived ancient Pokémon.

On the other hand, Miraidon may possibly be a “descendant” of Koraidon – made from Koraidon’s DNA and genetically modified to become a futuristic specimen, similar to the relationship between Mew and Mewtwo.

There’s also the webbed digits of Koraidon and the fused middle claws of Miraidon what further suggests a close link, and the horn-like protrusions on their shoulders which are the most similar features that they share apart from their general body structure.

    Koraidon and Miraidon Typing

The official page has not yet revealed the typing of these two legendaries, but if we follow the supposed leaks from Riddler Khu over at Twitter, who has so far provided cryptic details about Scarlet and Violet that match up until the legendary reveal, it’s possible that Koraidon is a Fighting/Dragon type and Miraidon is an Electric/Dragon type. These typings are not that farfetched since most of their visual features do suggest the same. We’ll just have to wait for more details to confirm if these leaks are correct.

Koraidon and Miraidon as Possible Modes of Transportation

Koraidon and Miraidon are undoubtedly based on different modes of transportation, with Koraidon resembling a motorcycle while Miraidon resembling a futuristic hoverbike rather than a jet. The protrusions on their shoulders may serve as the rider’s handlebars.

A Third Scarlet and Violet Legendary?

With most of the previous games having a tertiary legendary, Scarlet and Violet might not be different and may also reveal a third legendary in the future. Our guesses are that it may follow the time trend and be a legendary representing the present. It may also be possible that it’s a legendary that has a different dynamic with the two that we’ve seen so far.

Another theory is because of that sort of “mirror dimension” that was shown in the final part of the trailer, we may be heading towards a sort of multiverse scenario as it’s pretty much a trend nowadays. It’s possible that a legendary Pokémon might be residing in that dimension, similar to Giratina.
