The Mega Man series is one of the most defining series ever developed by Capcom. Recently, Capcom has announced that a new Mega Man game is set to be released next year, 2027, as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. During the livestream of Nintendo Direct, new Mega Man: Dual Override gameplay was revealed, and it not only featured Mega Man gameplay mechanics but also debuted one of Mega Man’s closest allies, Proto-Man.

Proto-Man, aka Blues, is one of the many characters in the Mega Man series that has appeared multiple times since Mega Man 3. He was considered the older brother of Mega Man and wields not only a buster cannon but also a shield he uses in combat as a boomerang and all.

In Mega Man: Dual Override, players can play as Proto-Man and use a variety of skills that many players did not know of. Proto Man can analyze the combat data from the Robot Masters he defeated to add special effects to his Proto Shield. He’s got a variety of special actions at his disposal, using combinations of buttons. He overheats if he keeps using these actions, though, so caution is required.

Proto-Man also utilizes the Override mode, a system that allows robots to release their limiter and gain strength beyond their normal capabilities for a short amount of time. The downside is, once Override mode is finished, it leaves the robot vulnerable for a while, with various functions performing at reduced levels, so it’s important to take timing into consideration. Plus, the Custom Chip System is a new system that Mega Man and Proto Man that have been outfitted with. It provides upgrades by equipping Custom Chips that improve various functionalities.

Mega Man: Dual Override is set to be released next year for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. More info about the game can be found on their main website.
