It’s been rumors up to this point, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced the PlayStation 5 Slim — for both physical and digital editions! Based on Sony’s track record, it’s been expected that the company will eventually reveal a slim model of its consoles.
According to the official PlayStation Blog, the weight has been reduced by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. The PS5 Slim is also reduced in volume by more than 30%. It’s lighter and much more compact than the 2020-launch models of the PS5. Plus, the PS5 Slim Digital Edition will feature an installable disc drive slot!

Sony shared that the standard retail price of the PS5 Slim with Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and PS5 Digital will be as follows:

Furthermore, if you’ve bought the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, you can install an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive later. The disc drive is sold separately and priced at 79.99 USD / 119.99 EUR / 99.99 GBP / 11,980 JPY.
This time, a horizontal stand will still be included for the PS5 Slim, however, a brand-new Vertical Stand that’s compatible with all PS5 models will be sold separately for 29.99 USD / 29.99 EUR / 24.99 GBP / 3,980 JPY.
PS5 Slim Release Date
The PS5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digital Edition is expected to launch in the United States this November 2023 before the rest of the world. There is no official date yet, but it’s expected to launch in November. We will have to wait for Sony’s update.
