There is a lot of hype behind Rise of the Ronin, besides looking like a more action-oriented take on Ghost of Tsushima, the game is developed by Team Ninja, creators of the Nioh series. With that caliber of talent and experience behind it, Rise of the Ronin looks to be yet another hit game in a year of surprise hits.

Since the game has been given to reviewers, the game’s trophy list has started appearing online before its scheduled release. One such list was shared on Reddit by user slickfiz. In this article, I’ll share some thoughts on the contents of the trophy list.

From the list, we can see that there are a total of 51 trophies to collect. Many of these trophies seem to be connected with story elements – so, read at your own risk. Spoiler alert has been issued.

Considering that Rise of the Ronin is a choice-driven narrative game, it is hard to estimate how long it’ll take to get the Platinum trophy for the game. There are various points in the story that require player input and all have consequences that are felt at the moment and down the line, impacting how potential NPC allies will perceive the player character.

The ‘Solitary Ronin’ is an interesting trophy. From what we know of the game, Rise of the Ronin allows for up to 3 AI companions and/or custom player characters. The fact that you can dismiss allies opens up the possibility of more stealth-like gameplay.

The game seems to be split between four chapters. You get the ‘Flying the Next’ for completing the Prologue, ‘Black Ship, Long Shadows‘ for Chapter 1, ‘Cities of Darkness‘ for Chapter 2, and ‘The Dawn of a New Japan‘ for Chapter 3.

Cat lovers, rejoice! A trophy called the ‘Cats Over All’ trophy requires the player to collect all cats in the game. It is not known how we will catch the felines, whether we will chase them rooftop to rooftop like a chase sequence in Assassin’s Creed or we’ll somehow have to convince them to come with us. Either way, this will please a good number of players.

There are two trophies tied to using a camera. The ‘A Happy Memory‘ trophy is unlocked for taking a photo at the request of Taka Murayama and ‘Sightseer‘ for completing all photograph spots. I’m assuming that the photos will be saved in the images folder. And hopefully, not exclusively monochromatic images.

The ‘Fancy Meeting You Here‘ trophy is unlocked after having 50 chance encounters. Does this mean that we’ll have to keep our eyes open or do we go to (?) markers ala Red Dead Redemption 2? I hope that encounters aren’t locked behind chapters. That would really be annoying.

The most surprising trophy I didn’t think I’d come across is the ‘Veiled Vow‘ trophy for starting a romantic relationship for the first time. This does imply that our character might be involved in multiple relationships.

This wouldn’t be a Team Ninja game if it didn’t have armor sets with bonuses for completing the whole set. They did the same thing in Nioh and they’re doing it again with the ‘Resonance’ trophy. To get this trophy, you’ll have to equip four or more pieces from the same set for the first time. If my guess is right, some armor sets will have a matching set of weapons that go together for more passive buffs.

The second most surprising trophy to come out of the list is the ‘Midnight Crossing‘ trophy. From what we were previously told, there would be three difficulty settings in the game: Dawn (easy), Dusk (normal), and Twilight (hard). Midnight appears to be an even harder difficulty, and the trophy requires you to complete an optional Ronin mission with it enabled. I don’t know if it’s unlocked after beating the game once or if it’s unlocked after beating that mission on a lower difficulty. We’ll have to find out.

Rise of the Ronin is set to release on March 22, 2024, exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
