Sackboy: A Big Adventure Encourages Co-Op Gameplay but Does Not Require It

Upcoming video game Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and will also be available for the PlayStation 4. It is a new game by game studio Sumo Digital and part of the LittleBigPlanet series that focuses more on this cute little Sackboy.

One of its most showcased features is its co-op gameplay that looks fun to do with friends. In the trailers, it seemed that it would be optimum to play with other players, but in the latest interview with Creative Director Ned Waterhouse, he clarifies this better.

Waterhouse revealed that multiplayer is a fundamental pillar of this game. They wanted “to make a great platformer, but that platformer should be even better when you play it with your mates.”

The creative director did clarify that the team created a set of mechanics that will encourage players to make a collaborative effort, but it does not mean they are required to do it. It can be done solo, but it offers players a better advantage with co-op gameplay in mind.

The game will have full support for four-play local and online co-op. It will also have support for couch-and-couch, which meant two players in one location play with two in another. There is also the support for drop-in/drop-out multiplayer and a system where progress is preserved when they play online with others. They can just return again to their single player game if they want to.

Waterhouse then shared what players could do together in Sackboy with hilarious results:

We developed all of these player-to-player interactions so that you had loads more options when there are other people in the world. So you can slap each other. You can come pick each other up and chuck each other. You can grapple each other. You can bounce off of each other’s heads, you can roll-run, and so on.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is coming on November 12 for PS5 and PS4.
