Star Wars Jedi Franchise Game Director Leaves Electronic Arts

Asmussen pursues new opportunities. What will happen to Survivor's sequel?

Respawn Entertainment’s Stig Asmussen, the game director behind the popular Star Wars Jedi franchise, is reportedly leaving Electronic Arts, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Schreier stated in his report that an EA spokesperson said Asmussen wanted to “pursue other adventures.” Even with the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, it’s not surprising that game developers would want to explore other opportunities and different projects, or the reason may be deeper than that.

“After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck,” an EA spokesperson said to Bloomberg. “Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”

Asmussen is known for his works in God of War III and Star Wars Jedi as game director.

With Asmussen leaving, what does this mean for the Star Wars Jedi franchise? While other veteran leaders will be taking the helm and continuing Asmussen’s legacy, the direction of the potential sequel to Survivor may go to a different path. Who knows? Time will tell.
