Part of being undercover for the UC Vanguard means collecting evidence against the Crimson Fleet in Starfield as part of the Burden of Proof quest. Lieutenant Toft is asking you to collect as much as you can find and there are 20 pieces of evidence with some being missable. The more evidence you collect, the better the reward you’ll get.

How to Start Burden of Proof in Starfield

Burden of Proof will start once you become undercover for the UC SysDef and are tasked with infiltrating the Crimson Fleet. Commander Ikande will tell you to report to Lieutenant Toft who will ask you to collect as much evidence as you can against the pirates.

Are Evidence Missable in Burden of Proof?

There are certain evidence in the Burden of Proof quest that are missable if you don’t pick them up when they’re available. Some evidence can’t be missed since they’re part of the main objectives for the Crimson Fleet questline. If you want to find all the Burden of Proof evidence, then you need to do so before the end of the Crimson Fleet faction questline.

All Starfield Burden of Proof Evidence Locations

Evidence you find for the Burden of Proof quest look like notepads. They’re small and easy to miss at times but they’re marked as “Evidence” so you know what you’re looking for. Evidence can be found throughout different quests you do for the Crimson Fleet with some being found on their main base, The Key.

    1. Naeva Meet Up Evidence Location

The Naeva Meet Up (Evidence) can be found behind Kemp on the table. Go to Sydonia on Mars which is located in the Sol System. This piece of evidence can be collected during the Deep Cover quest which tasks you with getting to join the Crimson Fleet by impressing Adler Kemp.

    2. Carter’s Gig Evidence Location

This piece of evidence can be found during the Echoes of the Past quest. Carter’s Gig is considered a key item you need to finish the mission so it isn’t missable. To find it, open the lockers in the shower room of D-Block section.

    3. Warden’s Log Evidence Location

This one can be found in the Warden’s office during the Echoes of the Past quest. Follow the yellow painted rooms and go upstairs. You’ll find the Warden’s Log (Evidence) on the corner on one of the desks. Unlike the other piece of evidence found on this mission, this one is missable.

    4. Request Denied Evidence Location

Request Denied is a piece of evidence that can be found during Breaking the Bank quest. It’s on top of the shelf next to the bed in the Captain’s Room inside the Crew’s Quarters. It’s on the second floor you can head into after speaking with Rokov. Head through the kitchen to the left and enter the Crew’s Quarters. Continue through the hallway until you see a red vending machine. The Captain’s Room is to the right.

    5. Dumbrosky’s Embezzlement Scheme Evidence Location

You have to pay Gabriel Vera 2,500 Credits for the Dumbrosky’s Embezzlement Scheme (Evidence). Since you’re instructed not to deviate from the Breaking the Bank mission, this is the best way to collect this evidence without trouble.

    6. Huan’s Talk Evidence Location

This evidence can be found on the lower floor of Kay’s House in All The Best There Is quest. Go to Kay’s House in The Well after talking to Huan about the job. You can find Kay’s House in the lower floor. You can find the Huan’s Talk (Evidence) in the back kitchen on a table.

    7. Eubanks & Woods Evidence Location

After reaching Gabriel Vogel’s Lab explore the back room to his right and you’ll find this piece of evidence. The Eubanks & Woods (Evidence) can be found on the cart near the computers. This piece of evidence is missable as you won’t be able to enter the SY-920 ship again after exiting it.

    8. Request A17 Evidence Location

Found back in The Key, go to Jazz’s Ship Services office. The Request A17 (Evidence) is to the right of her computer terminal.

    9. Misa’s Demise Evidence Location

This piece of evidence is found inside The Key. Inside one of the first floor rooms located in the Bunk. The room you’re looking for has a dumbbell across the bed. The Misa’s Demise (Evidence) is on the table to the left.

    10. Voss’s Parts Evidence Location

Go to the Operations Center in The Key and head upstairs. The Voss’s Parts (Evidence) is found next to Delgado’s computer.

    11. Gennady Ayton Evidence Location

Go the The Key’s Clinic and talk to Samina to ask her if she needs any help. This will start the Doctor’s Orders quest where you’ll venture to the Clinic Space Station to look for Gennady Ayton. You can find Gennady Ayton (Evidence) behind him on top of some computer parts.

    12. Message For Bog Evidence Location

Talk to Bog in the Last Nova bar and ask what’s bothering him. He’ll send you on the Reclaiming the Past quest to find his former partner’s ring for him. The issue here is that the outpost of this quest seems to be randomly generated meaning you could end up with enemies above your weight class. You’ll find the Message For Bog (Evidence) in a military crate inside the same room you find the ring.

    13. Chunks Heist Evidence Location

This piece of evidence can be found on Porimma 3. Travel to the Porimma System and land on the Red Mile on Porimma 3. You’ll find Chunks Heist (Evidence) on the left side of the bar counter.

    14. Chiroptera Evidence Location

The Chiroptera (Evidence) can be found on the Lizzy’s Bar in Gagarin. Travel to the Alpha Centauri System and land on the planet. This piece of evidence can be found on the counter of Lizzy’s Bar near the spaceport just before the statue.

    15. HopeTown Raid Evidence Location

This evidence can be found on at the The Pit Stop on HopeTown. Travel to Planet Volvo in the Valo System. It’s on the bar counter in front of the fire extinguisher.

    16. Kreet Offer Evidence Location

This evidence can be found on a table just as you enter The Den in the Wolf System. It’s on the planet of Chthonia. Once you’ve docked inside, pick up the Kreet Offer (Evidence) on the table in front of the large neon sign that says “Open.”

    17. The Big Score Evidence Location

This evidence can be found during the Absolute Power quest for the Crimson Fleet questline. Once you’ve landed in Ebbside in Neon, go to Madame Sauvage’s Bar and then head to the door on the left to find a bedroom. The Big Score (Evidence) is on the bedside table.

    18. Meeting With Bayu Evidence Location

During the Absolute Power quest, you have the optional task of breaking into Ayumi Komiko’s office where you can find this piece of evidence. Head to Generdyne offices and talk to Ji Nashida who works at the reception. Persuade Nashida to let you into Ayumi’s office after mentioning Komiko or picklock it yourself.

    19. Ayumi’s Offer Evidence Location

Ayumi’s Offer (Evidence) can be found behind the bar on the Member’s Only Lounge in Euphorika. You’ll end up getting here because of the Absolute Power quest. However it’ll cost 5,000 credits to get in.

    20. Mortem Obire Evidence Location

You can find the Mortem Obire (Evidence) right next to Jasper Kryx’s body in the Eye of the Storm quest. This is the penultimate mission for the Crimson Fleet faction questline before you have to decide between siding with the pirates or with the UC SysDef.

Burden of Proof Evidence Rewards in Starfield

Finding all 20 pieces of evidence for the Burden of Proof quest rewards you with the Memento Mori legendary pistol and a few thousand credits. After collecting the last piece of evidence, go back to UC Vigilance and talk to Lieutenant Toft, who will open up about her past and give you the rewards for finding all the evidence she needs.

If you side with the UC SysDef to fight against the pirates, you’ll get more support from the faction on the attack against The Key. Though just because you gave Lieutenant Toft all the evidence doesn’t mean you have to side with UC SysDef. You can immediately turn back to The Key to hand Kryx’s Legacy to Delgado and side with the pirates.
