CAPCOM’s president recently stated that the company aims to sell Street Fighter 6 copies to overcome its predecessor.
President Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently spoke with Famitsu in an interview talking about the upcoming fighting game sequel Street Fighter 6. He was asked if their trying out to widen the game’s scope and make the game series more attractive to the less hardcore fans had an effect on its costs for development.
Tsujimoto said that the Street Fighter series is their flagship title, so they did not hesitate in spending a lot. “Over the past few years, multiple titles in the Resident Evil series have sold 10 million copies, and the Monster Hunter series now has titles that are aiming for 20 million copies. Street Fighter V has already sold over 7 million copies, so if we can make use of our digital sales experience, we should be able to aim for 10 million copies with the next game.”
CAPCOM’s plan is to do everything that they could not do before for the latest Street Fighter game. If this could be done, it would be possible to reach those numbers.
Street Fighter 6 launches on June 2, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
