Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich has confirmed The Batman 2 is happening and Robert Pattinson is returning to don the dark cape.
According to the announcement via Deadline, the sequel is now a go with Matt Reeves returning as the director. Pattinson will still take on the role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman. The announcement happened as the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas just recently.
“Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman,” said Reeves during the presentation. “We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”
The original The Batman movie focuses on a younger Bruce Wayne who has become “vengeance” for most of his life in this film and takes on a case where the suspect is targeting corrupt political figures in Gotham. It also uncovers the history of the Wayne’s family history. Zoe Kravitz is Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Detective Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. The main villain is The Riddler played by Paul Dano.
The Batman has also raked in sales of more than $760 million USD worldwide with a viewership of 4.1 million households on HBO Max on its first week.
