The Last Of Us Becomes Highest Unit Selling Horror Game In US

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, third person action adventure video game The Last of Us has become the highest selling horror game in the United States.

The Last of Us gets top honor

One would assume that there are other game franchises out there would claim the honor of the best-selling horror video game in the US like a Resident Evil title, or even a Silent Hill one. Piscatella however has revealed that it belongs to Naughty Dog’s horror game, which launched way back in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and then got rematered on the PlayStation 4 in 2014. As of this month, it has now sold in excess of 20 million units across both platforms.

The interesting part of this is that the NPD classifies the game as a horror genre. Some would disagree because they would call it a survival drama genre, but it does have a theme of horror due to the fungus attacking humans and turning them into zombie-like creatures.

The full game is now available on PS3 and PS4. The sequel, The Last of Us Part II, will launch next year on May 29, 2020 on PS4.
