The Wolf Among Us 2 Delayed to Avoid Crunch

Fans will have to wait for another year.

Telltale Games has now verified in a new post that The Wolf Among Us 2 delayed.

The guys from Telltale Games have recently posted on its official Twitter account the sad news about The Wolf Among us 2’s upcoming launch. It was decided by the staff that they will have to delay the release of the game out of 2023, which meant it will now be released the next year, 2024. They also shared the reason for doing this.

The devs acknowledge that they have started the work in 2020 and still it is not enough for developing this game. They want to continue development while also protecting the health of their team. One of the causes that they wanted to avoid was due to crunch, which could inevitably cause health problems to their team members. They are also upgrading for Unreal Engine 4 to the new Unreal Engine 5.

Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie recently spoke with IGN to explain further their move of delaying the game to 2024. He said that there were a number of reasons for it, but it primarily was to avoid burnout or shipping an unfinished game.

“Making games is difficult and they need time to be right,” he said. “And it doesn’t do any of us any good to ship something that’s not ready.”

Ottilie also said that if the studio would have released the game and it was not ready at all, they would have gotten “torn to shreds” by the public. He knows that expectations for the sequel are really high and they want more time to meet those.

There is another option for them to finish the game early and that is to do crunch, which the CEO has vowed to never happen again. This was actually one of the causes of their downfall in the first place before they were taken up by another company and got resurrected. They are not going to that direction again due to the trauma.

The Wolf Among Us 2 is now launching in 2024.
