Strand is the power to pull on the strings that bind the universe, or so they say. In practice, it often involves tangling, unraveling, and manipulating a cosmic force that we don’t quite understand just yet. Curious still are the fragments that allow for certain playstyles, namely the thread of Ascent Strand Fragment.

In this Thread of Ascent Destiny 2 guide, we will tell you everything you need to know about the potent Strand fragment.

Note: On March 09, Bungie announced on its TWAB that it has disabled the fragment for the World's First Race for the new raid, Roots of Nightmares.

What is Thread of Ascent

The Thread of Ascent is a fragment of the new Strand sub-class. Its description states that “Activating your grenade ability reloads your equipped weapon and grants bonus airborne effectiveness and handling for a short duration.” It also provides +10 Mobility. What the game doesn’t tell, however, is the fact that Thread of Ascent lasts for about 15 seconds. While active, your currently equipped weapons get +30 Airborne Effectiveness.

The fragment works well with any of the current Strand grenades:

  • Grapple
  • Shackle Grenade
  • Threadling Grenade

The fragment is particularly effective with Hunter Grapple Strand builds. But Titans mains are starting to see the potential of the fragment as it synergizes well with their mid-air dodge and claw attacks.

How to unlock Thread of Ascent

To unlock Strand abilities, Guardians will need to finish the Lightfall campaign first before gaining the ability of Strand outside of the campaign.

Once the Strand is available, you need to use the Pouka Pond to expand your knowledge of the darkness subclass. You can purchase the Thread of Ascent Fragment in exchange for 200 Strand Meditations.

The best way to get Strand Meditations is to participate in Terminal Overload Public Events till the end opening the chest after surviving three stages of fighting both Vex and Shadow Legion forces.

And that’s everything you need to know about the Strand fragment right now. Good luck out as you expand your knowledge of the darkness, Guardian.
