How to transfer Splatoon 2 save data to Splatoon 3

To transfer your Splatoon 2 save data to Splatoon 3, you must first have both games installed on the same Switch system, and you must also have your existing save data saved in the system as well. Make sure that you are also logged in to the same Nintendo User Account that has the save data and that you will be intending to use for the new game.

Then, launch your copy of Splatoon 3 and it will automatically detect your Splatoon 2 save data. You’ll then get a prompt to continue with the save data before proceeding with the game. Entering the game’s lobby while connected to the internet will also automatically transfer your competitive play save data. This can only be done once per Nintendo Account.

There are a lot of perks that you can get by transferring your save data to Splatoon 3, as listed below:

  • Anarchy Battles will automatically be unlocked at the start of the game. You will not need to level up to level 10 first before unlocking the mode.
  • You will start the game with a higher rank that will depend on your rank from Splatoon 2.
  • You will be matched against players with similar skill levels from Splatoon 2.

Splatoon 3 Save Data Transfers on different Switch systems

If you own multiple Switch systems, it is possible for you to play Splatoon 3 on all of them using the same Nintendo Account. This requires an active Nintendo Switch Online Subscription since the subscription is needed for multiplayer online play, and it has the Cloud Storage feature which will be needed later on.

Since all your online progression such as your player level, ranks, items, and gear will automatically be stored in a server under your Nintendo Account, you can simply pop and install the game on your other Switch system and continue your online progression from there.

As for your campaign progression, you will need to upload your save data to the Cloud Storage of your Nintendo Switch Online first, since it will only be saved on your Switch’s local storage. Then, download the save data on your other Switch console and then you can continue playing the story mode from there.
