A certain scalper group who claimed to have secured 1,000 Xbox Series X orders has recently been cancelled by the retailer.
Media outlet Eurogamer revealed that this group, the same group that claimed to have gotten over 3,500 PlayStation 5 units, claimed to have secured 1,000 Series X orders from a very well-known online retailer. It was reported that they used bots to automatically get those orders and complete mass purchases in one go.
The retailer that was mentioned in the report seems to be UK retailer Very. It normally would limit the console purchases to one per address. The scalper group seemed to have found a way to go around this restriction. Too bad for them that the retailer has now cancelled all of those orders.
“As a result of a technical error, some people were able to place orders for PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles for a short time on Sunday,” Very told Sky News. “However, these items are not on sale and affected customers have received notice that the orders have been cancelled. We apologize for the confusion caused.”
Very did not mention if it currently has stock of any next-gen consoles. Some legitimate customers got caught up with the confusion, but the retailer promised to give them a refund within 48 to 72 hours.
For now, justice has won and the scalper group has taken a loss. Hopefully more measures will be implemented next time.
