Fortnite amazes me yet again with how it took the world by storm. Remember, this is a game that virtually nobody knew about before being the top streamed game. Not only did it stay alive for such a long time, but somehow managed to keep in the mainstream spot light for quite a while.
Of course, everyone who’s ever held any gaming console or PC would have at least heard about it. There has to be a good reason why it’s popular right?
Learning of Fortnite’s massive success, other developers have taken to adopting the Battle Royale genre into their own games. This is because they think that Battle Royale is really what the people want. While they’re not wrong, there’s more to Fortnite’s popularity than just Battle Royale in itself.
Fortnite is amazing in that it does its best never to get stale. Developers are frequently adding new modes. They are adding new things that can change the game. This attracts new players and keeps getting even the older ones back to see if there’s anything new.
I remember playing as Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet. I remember playing matches with only rockets and explosives. I remember the constant grip of paranoia on a sniper only match against 99 other players.
There’s many modes to choose from. And not just modes, but also new costumes, big and small map changes, cool weapon additions, and some of the coolest easter eggs.
Other games can really learn to keep players coming back to their game by constantly adding new things. Not just costumes and skins, but also new modes. Even just making new maps can be an interesting refreshment. It keeps multiplayer from becoming too stale.
Now there are several key factors that makes Fortnite’s Battle Royale a success: stable servers, good exposure, right down to how it handled battle passes. There are definitely quite a few things that Fortnite does to keep us interested. Although recently, it hasn’t exactly been on the spotlight. But that doesn’t mean other games can’t learn from it.
Fortnite knows how to keep things vibrant and fun. Now I don’t mean that other games should become exactly like Fortnite. Fortnite is its own identity after all, I do feel as though it would be better if other games with multiplayer can keep up supplying modes and new content to keep itself alive.
Now it doesn’t necessarily have to be Battle Royale. It can be applied to any mode in multiplayer and even single player. Truth be told though, the Battle Royale genre has blown up so much recently that it’s starting to get a little old. I’m looking forward to seeing other games that aren’t BR related implement some new things to keep itself fresh.
