Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Chose Yuffie for Canon Story

The vampire was canonically asleep at this time.

Co-Director Motomu Toriyama explained the reason for Square Enix to choose Yuffie Kisaragi as the heroine for recently launched Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Episode Intermission DLC.

There were some fans wondering why Square Enix chose the pretty and hyper active ninja Yuffie over the dark and brooding vampire Vincent Valentine for the new DLC. Some were thinking that Yuffie had more appeal or she was just a big fan favorite. The answer was actually simple according to Toriyama: Vincent was still sleeping at this time.

“Yuffie, the heroine of Episode Intermission was not guaranteed to join your party in the original game, but that actually made her a character that we had more freedom to expand on the backstory for,” Toriyama shared to media outlet The Gamer. “Compared to Vincent, who was canonically sleeping in a coffin under the Shinra Mansion and so could not be moved around, Yuffie was journeying around the world as a materia hunter. By inserting the events in Midgar from FF7R Episode Intermission into that journey, we can show the feelings that she had towards that incident that are usually hidden behind her cheery personality, and that will tie into her story further down the line.”

Toriyama wanted the fans to know the original game and the different FF7 universe titles that they can look forward to in the future and how they will all relate to each other. The development team might have also wanted everyone to know how the original story went and that they only followed it faithfully without deviating from it too much.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is now available on PlayStation 5.
