Kojima Productions Founder Hideo Kojima has recently shared his opinion about how Death Stranding PlayStation 5 version was named.
The reveal of the Director’s Cut was not that much of a surprise for those who have dived into Reddit and its rumor subreddits, but most fans were shocked about it. Some were confused as to why it was called as such.
Some gamers have pointed out that Director’s Cut did not make sense because the game was something new and Kojima actually released an all-original title without any cut content. In fact, it should not have been called Director’s Cut at all and should be something else since these new contents are new stuffs that were not in the original.
Kojima shares the same idea too, according to his latest Twitter posts on his official account. In fact, he wants another subtitle for it instead of Director’s Cut.
A director’s cut in a movie is an additional edit to a shortened version that was either released reluctantly because the director did not have the right to edit it, or because the running time had to be shortened
In the game, it is not what was cut, but what was additionally produced that was included. Delector’s (he meant to say Director’s) Plus? So, in my opinion, I don’t like to call ‘Director’s Cut’.
Director’s Plus indeed since it is new content. No word on who actually coined it as Director’s Cut though, but other titles have been following this as well like Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. There is an expansion upcoming so why name it Director’s Cut anyways? Kojima and the rest of us are totally confused.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut will launch on September 24, 2021 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
