Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr were proud to tease us with their upcoming remake project of the most successful Star Wars game in history, Knights of the Old Republic. Aspyr is the king of Star Wars remasters, re-releasing iconic games of the IP such as Star Wars: Racer, Star Wars Republic Commando, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and it’s fit for them to do the remake of this iconic title.
Announced at Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation Showcase 2021 last week took everyone by surprise as it was the first trailer revealed at the event.
By teasing us with a quick look at the visually striking Darth Revan, we all can’t wait for any news about Star Wars: Knights of the Republic Remake in the upcoming months from Aspyr.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Release Date
Sadly, there aren’t any specific release dates yet. However, we can easily speculate that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake may launch in Holiday 2022 or in 2023 since the rumors in the past have suggested that it’s been in development for a while according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier, a well-renowned gaming journalist.
Based on the game’s scale, with intricate branching stories, and how it’s moving away from its original combat system can likely mean that the release date of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake will be in 2023.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Platforms
The remake will be a timed PS5 console launch exclusive and on PC. The game will eventually release on Xbox Series X|S.
In the past, the original release of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic in 2003 came out exclusively on Xbox and PC, making this a huge turn of events as most of us expected the remake to be at least be an Xbox exclusive.
Sony may have sniffed the demand of a remake, and with Microsoft blinded by its focus on Xbox Game Pass and acquiring studios, the Japanese company took the opportunity to partner with Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr for the remake.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Multiplayer
The original game did not offer any multiplayer, but with how successful Star Wars The Old Republic is, there might be a chance that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake will feature a multiplayer mode. However, knowing Sony’s track record of having blockbuster single-player games, it’s going to be less likely that the remake will offer any kind of multiplayer.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Gameplay
The intricacy of its turn-based gameplay in 2003, which was based on the d20 role-playing game system, will most likely not return in this remake. If Aspyr is going to make the game accessible to everyone, especially under Sony and Lucasfilm Games’ supervision, the gameplay will be more akin to those action role-playing games with real-time combat and it’s evidently going to be open-world.
Is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Canon?
That’s the biggest question, is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake canon? It’s most likely a yes. We have to consider that Lucasfilm is working closely with Aspyr in the development of the remake. This is going to be the first Star Wars game set 4,000 years before the events of The Phantom Menance in the Disney-Star Wars era.
It’s also worth noting that Darth Revan and his Sith Troopers are already canon based on the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary. According to the visual dictionary, Sith troopers were separated into 5,000, with each legion named after a Sith Lord, and one of those legions was named “The 3rd: Revan Legion”, thus confirming Darth Revan’s status in the Disney-Star Wars universe.
