2018 could be Playstation’s year, it could also be not – who knows, really? But the first quarter of the year saw releases as big as yo mama the dreams of a child growing up (let’s stay nice here – no yo mama jokes, please). This list contains five of the best games of 2018, but the first four will be in no particular order. The true best game will be the last item on this article, you know, to show some competition among the five – heh.
Shadow of the Colossus
SotC is a remake. The original version was released on the PS2 circa early 2005. It was stunningly beautiful back then, even more so now. The game even plays flawlessly, with improved mechanics, control scheme, and framerates. Intrigued by how better the game got? Read our full review here.
Monster Hunter: World
Released on the multiple platforms, MH:World improved on its predecessors graphically, and gameplay-wise. The annoying quirks of Monster Hunter past are now gone. Seamless map and infinity whetstones, anyone? The story may be weak, but who cares, we’re here to slay them giants. All that and more can be read on our full review.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Time to throw away those seven dragon balls you collected (or bought from some shady online guy), the best DB fighting game is here, since January 2018. FighterZ shows how amazing interactions within the characters can be, when done and voice acted right, even in fighting games. The only flat thing about the game is its narrative. Our reason for this can be read here.
Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
It’s cute, it’s vibrant, it’s whimsical. Ni no Kuni 2 is the second main game in the series (duh) which greatly improved on the original. The combat is fun, engaging, and surprisingly deep – according to our full review. You get to be a king who builds his kingdom from the ground up. What’s even better is how the set pieces feel a lot like a world from any of the Studio Ghibli films. It’s a masterpiece JRPG fans must not miss.
Metal Gear Survive
Why is it the best? Why not, it’s Metal Gear! Oh, who am I kidding I can’t even write a pretend good intro. I’m not saying Survive is bad, it’s just– anyway, read our full review here and well, let’s move on.
God of War
‘Tis the PS4’s bestest game as of May 2018. God of War is poetic, dramatic, overall fantastic! Sony released one of their Game of the Year 2018 contenders as early as April. I can’t write any more here – just check out our review! Go and journey with Kratos and Boy Atreus!
