Sony Admits Blocking PS Plus Subscription Stacking

Sony Interactive Entertainment has finally admitted to blocking PS Plus Subscription stacking as suspected by many after they got error messages trying to extend their subs yesterday.

The official FAQ section (scroll down below) of the upcoming PlayStation Plus changes page have been updated and some new questions were added, which were related to yesterday’s errors. Many subscribers were not able to redeem pre-paid voucher cards and extend their subscription time yesterday, which is usually called stacking. They quickly rushed to ask PlayStation Support for help, but they were just told that this was only temporary and no other explanations were shared.

Today, we get clearer answers from SIE as they finally admit of blocking the ability to stack subscription. “If you currently have a PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now membership, due to changes we are making to the service prior to launch, you won’t be able to redeem a voucher code for that service until your existing membership expires and deactivates, or after the new PlayStation Plus service launches in your area, whichever happens first. Rest assured that your voucher code is still valid,” the explanation says.

So why are the customers who were trying to stack PS Plus or PS Now cards are getting these error messages now? SIE explains further:

“As we prepare to launch the new PlayStation Plus membership service, we are doing some work behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible for all of our existing members,” the answer says. “As part of this work, we’ve temporarily disabled stacking memberships for existing customers until after the launch.”

“Rest assured that your voucher code is still valid, and you will be able to redeem your code either when your existing membership expires and deactivates, or after the new PlayStation Plus service launches in your area, whichever happens first.”

Still, there have been reports that some users were not able to redeem their codes even after their subscription got expired. They still got the same error message that others saw when stacking for subscription. SIE did not have an answer for this, but it is possible that those errors that happened yesterday were due to some issue on SIE’s part, not the customers. It is possible they could redeem those codes now after this official announcement dropped.
