Assassin’s Creed Mirage BTS Video Focuses on Returning to AC Roots

Ubisoft has recently released a new Assassin’s Creed Mirage behind-the-scenes look video and focuses on how this entry is returning to its roots of the classic AC titles.

The developers have recently stated that this newest entry of AC, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, is returning back to its roots where stealth is the primary focus and not RPG elements like its predecessor Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Based on the previous trailers, it seems they are serious about going back to it all which made fans fall in love with the series. This new trailer shares new details about how Ubisoft has implemented back the old Assassin’s Creed core gameplay mechanics.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Old-School Parkour is Back

The first core gameplay mechanic that Assassin’s Creed Mirage features is parkour. According to the developers, this new entry got its inspiration from one of the popular Assassin’s Creed classic titles, AC II. Now they chose to put the emphasis on comfort and fluidity, just like where Ezio scaled the rooftops so easily. It did not frustrate players with complex button combinations; just toggle the joystick forward and hold press a button to easily climb, jump, and scale rooftops. Various parkour moves are coming back like the corner swing, the ability to vault over objects, elevators to quickly reach high ground, and some new moves like the pole vault.

    Old Stealth Mechanics with New

Stealth is back where Basim can easily blend with the crowd just like in previous AC games: wait in the shadows, plan their next move, strike, and then vanish to the shadows again, never to be seen by his enemies. Ubisoft promises that there will be new killing animations, with some leveraging a stealthy approach, others delivering a violent killing blow. Bench assassinations are coming back, rooftop garden kills, and more. The developers encourage players to be sneaky.

Enemy AI has been reworked too to make it closer to reality this time around. Enemies can now snipe the eagle that Basim uses to scope an area to prevent spying, spearmen can now poke hiding places which forces Basim to come out and risk discovery, and the horn bearer can call for reinforcements that can overwhelm players.

    Overhauled Assassination

Assassinations will not be as simple as focusing on the target and getting out. This time, players will have to investigate their targets to unlock weaknesses, new routes, sub-targets to kill to weaken the guards, and more. The Hidden Ones now have a network of bureaus all over Baghdad where Basim can visit and gather intelligence, track down new targets, rescue VIPs, and more. Who knows, these other contracts might give players info that could be helpful in high-value assassination missions. Also, players are given the opportunity to complete an assassination mission in any way they like.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is shaping up to be the AC game that many hardcore fans have been waiting for. It is a comeback of the old core mechanics and adding new tweaks to make it better.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches on October 12, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
